The Minister of Defence-destignate Christopher Musa, arrived at the State House in Abuja on Thursday ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, following his confirmation by the Senate.
He entered the Presidential Villa at about 3 p.m., accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Oluoyede Kayode.
Musa, who previously served as the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, drew widespread public attention during his Senate confirmation, where lawmakers declined to grant him the traditional “bow and go” privilege. Instead, he faced an extended questioning session.
During the screening, senators pressed him on key national security concerns, including defence financing, intelligence gaps, technological shortcomings within the military, rising banditry, terrorist infiltration, recent operational setbacks, and the nationwide surge in kidnappings.
The session coincided with the Senate’s renewed push to classify kidnapping as a terrorist offence and introduce the death penalty without the option of a fine—part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework ahead of Musa’s assumption of office.
Western Post earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu commended the Senate for its prompt confirmation of Musa.
