The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, made the remarks while addressing Government House correspondents after inspecting the resort along Dominic Utuk Avenue, Uyo. He said his visit was to ensure that VAIA’s infrastructure is ready for smooth operations following its upgrade to international status.
“Aviation is tied to tourism and commerce. They go together as a full package. So, we thought it fit to come and see the supporting infrastructure available to the new international airport that is about to take off,” Keyamo said.
Describing the resort as “huge and mesmerizing,” the Minister highlighted its amenities, including an artificial lake fed by natural spring water, a clubhouse, villas, floating bars and restaurants, as well as sporting and recreational facilities. He stated that these features would enhance tourism and support the airport’s operations.
Keyamo commended Governor Umo Eno for his vision in transforming the state into a major tourism hub, noting that a former ecological disaster site has been turned into a “spectacular world-class tourist attraction.”
“This was an erosion spot, but today it is being transformed into a world-class tourist hub. It’s mind-blowing. It is another tenth wonder of the world. This project will support the international airport and help make it one of the busiest in Nigeria,” he added.
Governor Eno revealed that the resort would not open this December as planned, stressing the importance of completing the project thoroughly. “Work has gone well, but we still won’t open in December. When we open, let us open in full,” he said, promising to announce a stable date for the official opening soon.
The inspection team included the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; members of the State Executive Council; political stalwarts; captains of industry; and other government functionaries.
