The disbursement was carried out on Friday at the Women Development Centre, Uyo, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hon. (Mrs.) Inibehe Silas Etukudo, said the intervention reflected Governor Eno’s empathy and unwavering support for widows. She described the initiative as a fulfilment of a promise and a clear assurance that the sacrifices of fallen heroes would always be honoured by the state.
She commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining the annual Remembrance Day and lauded Governor Eno for his consistent support for widows and the advancement of women, noting that such initiatives align with the core objectives of the ARISE Agenda.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry disclosed that beneficiaries had begun receiving payment alerts during the programme. She assured that all beneficiaries were duly verified and advised recipients to make judicious use of the funds.
The State Chairperson of the Military Widows Association, Comrade Grace John Aniema, described the intervention as unprecedented in the history of military widows’ support in Akwa Ibom State and expressed profound gratitude to the governor.
Goodwill messages from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, and the State Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Comrade Edumoh Ekerendu, described the gesture as a worthy recognition of the sacrifices made by fallen heroes and their families.
The programme also featured prayers in honour of fallen heroes and was attended by senior security officials, as well as representatives of military and paramilitary agencies.
