Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, a former House of Representatives candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections in KWARA State, has been conferred with the prestigious traditional title Nwanne Ukwu Di Na Mba by His Royal Highness, Eze J. Osoka Agwu, the Aba-Ukwu of Amaba-Ukwu Item, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
The chieftaincy title was bestowed on Ajia on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the royal palace during events marking the monarch’s 80th birthday and 20th coronation anniversary.
Presenting the title, Eze Osoka Agwu said the honour was approved by the Eze-in-Council in recognition of Ajia’s character, goodwill and enduring relationship with the community through its daughter, Professor Arunma Oteh. He noted that Ajia had earned acceptance as a son of Amaba-Ukwu Item by his conduct and commitment rather than by birth.
In his acceptance remarks, Ajia expressed profound appreciation to the monarch and the people of the community for the honour and warm reception accorded him.
He said the recognition also celebrated the contributions of Professor Oteh, whom he described as an internationally respected figure and a worthy daughter of the community, adding that the support and acceptance he had received made him feel fully embraced as a member of the community.
Ajia described the title Nwanne Ukwu Di Na Mba, translated as “My Dear Brother from Another Land,” as symbolic and deeply meaningful. He pledged to serve as a responsible ambassador of Amaba-Ukwu Item and to promote the image and values of the community wherever he goes.
He assured the sons and daughters of the community of his continued commitment to upholding its dignity and projecting its positive contributions to the wider society.
Also speaking, Professor Arunma Oteh, Ajia’s adopted mother and a globally recognised leader in financial markets and economic development, said the title aptly reflected Ajia’s character, values and broad national outlook.
