Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the perimeter fencing of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, to enhance security and prevent further encroachment on the institution’s land.
The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Jimoh Abdul Mohammed, announced this on Monday at a maiden media parley organised by the Department of Strategic Communication and Media Studies, in conjunction with the Information and Publications Division of the institution.
He said the approval followed repeated complaints to the governor over continued encroachment on the polytechnic’s land, which he described as a major challenge.
According to him, the proposed perimeter fence will help safeguard staff, students and property within the institution.
“The polytechnic is faced with serious land encroachment, and our caring governor has approved the perimeter fencing of the institution,” the rector said.
He added that the governor had also directed that no building should be demolished during the fencing exercise.
In his paper presentation titled “The New Kwara in KWARAPOLY”, the Senior Adviser and Counsellor to the governor, Mallam Saadu Salahu, said the administration’s investment in education is reviving the vision of the polytechnic’s founding fathers.
Salahu noted that improved funding, infrastructure development and digital literacy initiatives have brought the institution closer to its long-term goal of becoming a University of Technology.
