President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to commiserate with the state government and families of schoolgirls abducted by bandits in the Maga area.
The president, who received full briefings from military authorities on both the abduction and a separate attack in Borno State, assured parents and guardians that the federal government is working to ensure the safe and speedy return of the kidnapped students.
Tinubu also expressed deep sorrow over the killing of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who died in combat while confronting insurgents in Borno. He extended condolences to the military and families of the fallen officers, describing their sacrifice as the highest act of service to the nation.
“As commander-in-chief, I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” he said.
The president lamented the attack on the school, noting that it occurred despite intelligence warnings of a possible strike. He commended Kebbi State Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts made to prevent the incident.
Condemning the disruption of the education of innocent schoolgirls, Tinubu ordered security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the abducted students and restore calm.
He further urged communities—especially those in areas facing heightened security threats—to share timely information with the military, police and Department of State Services, stressing that national security requires strong collaboration between citizens and security forces.
“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us if the people do not cooperate and share information. Your cooperation is crucial in our fight against these security challenges,” the president said.
