President Bola Tinubu says his administration is considering the establishment of a Presidential Task Force on “Detty December,” an inter-agency initiative aimed at coordinating Nigeria’s fast-growing end-of-year tourism and festival economy.
The proposal was discussed at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Thursday at the State House, Abuja. Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the meeting.
According to Musawa, the planned task force will harmonize efforts between the federal and state governments to position Nigeria—particularly Lagos—as a leading global destination for December tourism.
She said the Council also approved the adoption of national tourism brands, including “Naija Season,” developed by the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC). The brand curates cultural and entertainment events across all 36 states throughout the year.
“The second memo we presented was for the development and adoption of tourism brands. As we know, ‘Detty December’ is around the corner—it started in Lagos with events like Homecoming and Eastern Capital Vibes. One of the biggest brands, ‘Naija Season,’ has now been adopted as a national tourism catalyst,” Musawa said.
She added that the initiative would serve as a presidential project to strengthen Nigeria’s creative industry and boost tourism revenue.
Musawa noted that the Federal Government plans to provide institutional support to Lagos State, which hosts the largest concentration of December concerts, festivals, and inbound diaspora visitors.
She explained that the task force will coordinate relevant MDAs—aviation, interior, power, and others—to ensure a world-class experience for international visitors. The initiative, she said, is expected to attract private-sector investment and enhance Nigeria’s soft-power influence globally.
