President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the prominent Islamic scholar and leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood. The revered cleric passed away on Thursday at the age of 101.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Sheikh Bauchi as a moral beacon who dedicated his life to Islamic scholarship, teaching, and preaching.
The president noted that the cleric’s passing represents a significant loss not only to his family and followers but also to Nigeria as a whole. He recalled the spiritual guidance and moral encouragement he received from Sheikh Bauchi during the period leading up to the 2023 elections.
“Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi was a teacher, a father, and a voice of moderation and reason,” Tinubu said. “As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Qur’an, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void.”
President Tinubu extended condolences to the followers of Sheikh Bauchi across Nigeria and beyond. He urged them to honour the cleric’s legacy by upholding his teachings on peaceful coexistence, deepening their devotion to God, and demonstrating kindness to humanity.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, known for his extensive Qur’anic scholarship and influence within the Tijjaniyya order, was widely respected across the Muslim community in West Africa.
