President Bola Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to veteran journalist, broadcaster, and former presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, celebrated on November 7, 2025.
In a message issued on Thursday, President Tinubu described Dr. Abati as a renowned public intellectual and distinguished media professional who has made remarkable contributions to journalism, public service, and national discourse.
The President praised Abati’s outstanding career spanning academia, print journalism, and broadcasting. “Dr. Abati has distinguished himself wherever he has traversed — in the university as a student and lecturer, as Chairman of the Editorial Board of The Guardian, as a writer, and presently as a television anchor,” Tinubu said.
He commended the journalist’s insightful writings and analyses, noting that his interventions “have continued to enlighten and inspire audiences across the country.”
Tinubu also lauded Dr. Abati’s service to Nigeria as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as a patriotic commentator whose creativity and versatility have enriched national conversations both in traditional and digital media.
The President congratulated Abati on the launch of three new books to mark his milestone birthday — Portraits: People, Politics and Society, A Love Letter and Other Stories, and How Goodluck Jonathan Became President.
“I join the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the Nigerian Guild of Editors, family members, and friends in celebrating this notable writer,” Tinubu stated.
The President fondly referred to Abati as “Rubi Rubi” and prayed for his continued good health, long life, and sustained inspiration to serve the nation and humanity.
