The president instructed Matawalle to remain in the state and monitor all operations aimed at securing the safe release of the kidnapped students, who were seized by gunmen at about 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
Following the incident, President Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, as he awaits further security briefings on the Kebbi abductions and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
Responding to a request from Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the president ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area, and directed the police to pursue the bandits responsible for the church attack.
The president had been scheduled to leave Abuja on Wednesday to attend the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and the 7th AU–EU Summit in Luanda. However, disturbed by the security breaches in Kebbi and the attack in Kwara, he suspended his departure.
President Tinubu has reiterated his directive to security agencies to exhaust all efforts to rescue the abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return.
