President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Steering Committee for the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), a key initiative aimed at accelerating economic activities, improving livelihoods, and strengthening social protection across Nigeria’s grassroots communities.
The approval was confirmed in a statement by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was appointed chairman of the committee. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, was named vice chairman.
Other members of the committee include governors representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones: Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State (North-East), Douye Diri of Bayelsa State (South-South), Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State (South-West), Peter Mbah of Enugu State (South-East), Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State (North-West), and Hyacinth Alia of Benue State (North-Central).
The committee held its inaugural meeting on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the NGF Secretariat in Abuja, marking a significant step toward implementing the President’s ward-based development strategy across all 8,809 wards in the country.
Governor AbdulRazaq described the committee’s formation as a major milestone in the administration’s efforts to deliver targeted and inclusive development. He said the committee would focus on designing implementation frameworks, coordinating intergovernmental efforts, and mobilizing resources to ensure effective execution at the local level.
“With the establishment of this committee, we have begun real progress toward delivering impactful development at the grassroots,” AbdulRazaq said. “Our focus is on rolling out implementation frameworks, coordination mechanisms, and mobilizing resources across all levels of government.”
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Governors’ Forum’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government to ensure that the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme delivers tangible outcomes that promote inclusive growth and sustainable development.
The Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme is part of President Tinubu’s broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes grassroots empowerment, economic inclusivity, and improved access to essential services in communities across Nigeria.
