The Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced three persons to death by hanging after finding them guilty of armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.
Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice O. M. Folorunsho held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt against the defendants — John Ndubuisi Nbakogu, Bolakale Quadri, and Toheeb Suleiman.
The convicts were found guilty of robbing one Aremu Dayo in the Oko-Erin area of Ilorin in March 2024. Despite their pleas for mercy, the trial judge imposed the death sentence in line with the mandatory provisions of the law.
The judgment has generated widespread reactions across the state, with many residents calling for stronger measures to combat armed robbery. The ruling further demonstrates the commitment of the judiciary to upholding justice and deterring violent crimes.
Meanwhile, the defendants reserve the right to appeal the judgment.
