  • Seyi Law has responded to Shehu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, after he called President Bola Tinubu a “drug baron” while reacting to U.S. President Donald Trump’s description of Nigeria as a “disgraced country.”
  • Defending Tinubu, Seyi Law criticized Shehu’s comment and referenced past corruption allegations involving Atiku, noting that his father had been accused of money laundering in the U.S. and faced public backlash during his time in office.

Popular Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has hit back at Shehu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, after he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “drug baron.”

Shehu made the remark while reacting to U.S. President Donald Trump’s comment describing Nigeria as a “disgraced country” amid allegations of Christian persecution. He wrote,

“Why are some upset that Donald Trump called us disgraceful? When they announced a drug baron as our President, what do you call that? Prideful?”

In response, Seyi Law defended Tinubu and took a swipe at Shehu’s father, saying,

“This is coming from someone whose father was called a thief by his principal and indicted as a money launderer in the US. Someone whose father deleted his handler’s tweet about the extra-judicial killing of Deborah. Na really wa.”

In other news…. Nigerian music legend and bandleader Akinloye Tofowomo, widely known as Akiin Shuga, has passed away, his family confirmed.

The founder and driving force behind the Shuga Band died on October 30, 2025, in New Brunswick, Canada, at the age of 50. In a heartfelt statement released on Monday, his family celebrated his life and musical contributions.

“Akinloye Tofowomo was more than just a musician; he embodied rhythm, culture, and the essence of performance,” the family said. They described him as a trailblazer whose impact on Nigerian live music spanned generations.

The statement highlighted his over thirty years of musical achievement, praising his leadership style that combined skill, elegance, and purpose. “To fans both in Nigeria and abroad, he was an inspiration and a pillar of excellence a true master of his craft,” the family added.

Requesting privacy during their period of mourning, they promised to share details of memorial services at a later date. “We ask for quiet reflection as we navigate this profound loss,” the statement read.

They also thanked friends, colleagues, and fans for their condolences. “We are deeply grateful to all who have offered prayers, tributes, and support. The legacy of Akinloye Tofowomo, through the Shuga Band and Shuga Entertainment, will endure,” the family noted.

Born on January 6, 1975, in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, Akiin Shuga’s journey was one of resilience. Afflicted by polio at the age of five, he overcame significant physical challenges to emerge as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated live performers and entertainment entrepreneurs.

His musical career began in earnest with the formation of Shuga Band in 1998, which first performed at Pintos in Ikeja, Lagos. The ensemble eventually grew into a 14-member group renowned for energetic shows at weddings, corporate events, and official functions.
