First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has issued a strong call for collective action to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse, stressing that “every child must grow up free from fear and harm.”
In a message marking the World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse 2025, on Tuesday, the First Lady urged government institutions, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, faith leaders, parents, and young people to unite in building a secure environment for all children.
Tinubu added that this year’s theme — “Strengthening the Protection of Children Against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse Through Evidence-Based Policy Making” — highlights the need for response strategies rooted in accurate data and research rather than sentiment alone.
“Protecting children must go beyond words and good intentions,” she said. “It demands informed action, guided by sound policies.”
The first lady emphasised that safeguarding children is a national responsibility, noting that sustainable progress requires cooperation across all levels of society.
