Speaking at the Leaders’ Climate Summit on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to achieving an emission reduction target of 32 percent by 2035.
He described Nigeria as a global leader in climate advocacy, stressing the need for world leaders to go beyond promises and take decisive action against the devastating effects of climate change.
“Representing my boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I spoke at the Leaders’ Climate Summit at the ongoing COP30 in Belém, Brazil,” Shettima said. “In my remarks, I reaffirmed Nigeria’s global climate leadership with a commitment to achieving an emission reduction target of 32% by 2035.”
The Vice President emphasized that the time had come for the international community to move from pledges to performance and from dialogue to delivery in tackling environmental challenges.
He urged that COP30 should be remembered as the turning point where nations collectively advanced from ambition to concrete action in addressing global warming and its attendant natural disasters.
“Indeed, let COP30 be remembered as the moment when the world moved from pledges to performance, from ambition to action, and from dialogue to delivery,” he stated.
