First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians living abroad to support national development by working closely with relevant agencies at home to promote innovation and mindset change among young people.
She made the appeal during an interactive session with Nigerians in Qatar on the sidelines of the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in Doha.
Many of the Nigerian participants at the summit are showcasing start-ups and innovative solutions.
Senator Tinubu praised their contributions and urged them to see themselves as “agents of change” who must help drive growth in Nigeria.
“The best you can give children is the ability to dream on their own. Education gives that ability,” she said.
“The Nigeria that gave us this opportunity to be what we are today, our youth also deserve it. We need to hold on to the optimism that our dear nation will be great again. I thank you all for making Nigeria proud.”
She encouraged the innovators to mentor young Nigerians and work with government agencies to strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem. Several participants were referred to Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, who attended the meeting, for potential collaboration.
In a separate engagement, the first lady also received members of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities of Nigeria, who were in Doha for the Education Beyond Borders Conference.
