First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Thursday formally closed the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)/Huawei Women in Tech Training Programme, urging participants to use their newly acquired digital skills to drive innovation and economic growth in their communities.
Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that when women are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they become agents of change in their families, communities, and the nation at large.
The programme, a partnership between the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and Huawei Technologies Company Limited, trained 300 women entrepreneurs drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Participants were selected from diverse sectors, including agriculture, fashion, catering, retail, event management, and technology services.
According to the First Lady, the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to promote inclusive growth, economic diversification, and digital empowerment.
“This training programme is designed to equip female entrepreneurs with practical technological skills to scale up their businesses, participate meaningfully in the digital economy, and become champions of digital transformation in their communities,” she said.
Mrs. Tinubu encouraged the participants to continue learning and adapting to new technological trends. “Use your new skills to solve real problems in your various communities because true innovation is only valuable when it improves lives. Remember, you are part of a larger network — support one another and grow together,” she added.
She commended Huawei Technologies for partnering with the Renewed Hope Initiative to empower women and assured that the Federal Government would continue to collaborate with the private sector to address the technological and economic needs of Nigeria’s growing population.
In his remarks, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), described the training as a valuable opportunity that would put Nigerian women on a “winning streak” in business and technology. He noted that information and communication technology (ICT) is transforming economies globally and that Nigeria must not be left behind.
