The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to strengthening national security and enhancing Nigeria’s global image.
The assurance followed a routine consultation with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.
Speaking after the meeting, Idris said discussions included recent concerns raised by the United States regarding Nigeria’s security and religious tolerance.
He stressed that the President remains calm and focused, working to ensure the international community understands Nigeria’s efforts to maintain peace and unity.
“Mr. President is exploring ways to ensure that the international community appreciates what Nigeria has been doing,” the Minister said, noting that the President recently reinvigorated the military hierarchy by appointing a new Chief of Defence Staff and other service chiefs.
Idris described the government’s approach as “multiple and ongoing,” including continued engagement with religious leaders and diplomatic outreach to global and regional bodies.
Rejecting claims that Nigeria is intolerant of religious diversity, he stressed that the constitution guarantees freedom of worship and that extremists are driving false narratives to divide the country.
He assured Nigerians that the administration is treating the situation seriously and expressed confidence that the country will emerge stronger. “All those who need to address these issues are doing so responsibly. We believe Nigeria will come out of this very strongly,” he added.
