The Kwara South APC Elders Forum has described the recent killing by bandits at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State as barbaric, unconscionable, and utterly unacceptable.
In a statement personally signed by Sir Chief James Bamisaiye Ayeni on behalf of the Forum, the elders expressed deep concern over the persistent wave of violent attacks across Kwara South. Ayeni noted that the region had suffered repeated assaults resulting in killings, maimings, kidnappings, widespread destruction of property, and the displacement of residents from their ancestral homes.
Citing previous incidents, he recalled attacks on Oke-Ode, Babanla, and the Oreke axis of Ifelodun LGA, during which about 15 vigilantes, 12 forest guards, and a traditional ruler were murdered. He also referenced the abduction and killing of the APC women leader in the Koro ward about two years ago, as well as the gruesome murder of the traditional ruler of Koro, HRH Oba (General, rtd.) Olusegun Aremu, whose Olori was kidnapped.
Ayeni added that no fewer than 50 people had been attacked along the Osi/Obbo-Ayegunle road within the past two years, stressing that Isin and Irepodun LGAs had equally suffered from the menace. He declared that “enough should be enough”.
The forum extended its condolences to the Owa of Eruku, His Royal Highness Oba Busari Olarewaju, the families of the bereaved, and members of Christ Apostolic Church.
It also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for their swift intervention and the deployment of additional security personnel to the Eruku axis to prevent further attacks.
