The Kwara State Government has constituted two nonpartisan committees comprising technocrats and labour leaders to verify gratuity records at the state and local government levels. The move is aimed at clearing pensioners to receive their dues based on their retirement dates from the civil service.
The eight-member committee for state gratuities is headed by the Auditor-General of the State, while the local government committee is chaired by the Local Government Auditor-General.
Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ilorin on Friday, noting that the committees will ensure transparency and fairness in the process.
Members include representatives of retired permanent secretaries, the Retired Civil Servants Association, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and certified Account and Finance staff from ICAN and ANAN. Iyabo Adebayo will serve as secretary for the state committee, while Mrs. Amina Ahmed will serve as secretary for the local government committee.
The local government committee also includes representatives of the Retired Local Government Civil Servants Association and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Dr. Nuru said the primary objective is to ensure the accurate and transparent compilation of outstanding gratuities for eligible pensioners in readiness for automated bank transfer payments.
The committees are mandated to obtain detailed yearly gratuity schedules from the pension board, verify their accuracy, and confirm pensioners’ qualifications using PSN numbers, pension numbers, KWSSRA SSID database, and NIN.
They are also tasked with reconciling records, prioritising payments chronologically from the oldest outstanding year, and ensuring accountability and audit readiness in all processes and documentation.
