A media entrepreneur and prominent son of Okerimi-Oro in the Oro Kingdom, Mr. Olatunde Michaels, has expressed optimism that the Igbomina bloc will secure the senatorial seat in Kwara South in the 2027 elections, citing growing unity and engagement among stakeholders.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday in Ilorin, Michaels said the Igbomina bloc has resolved to field a single candidate for the 2027 Kwara South senatorial ticket.
He noted that Kwara South comprises three political blocs—Igbomina, Ibolo, and Ekiti—and pointed out that the Igbomina have only represented the district for four years (2003 and 2019), while the other two blocs will have held the seat for a combined 24 years by 2027.
“In the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness, we must ensure all blocs receive equitable representation in Kwara South. One or two blocs cannot dominate representation; we all have a stake,” he said.
Michaels, a media professional and owner of The Wedding Channel on leading pay-TV platforms, emphasised that the time has come for the Igbomina bloc to lead.
“We have the highest number of wards in Kwara South, with approximately 40 wards across Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Isin local government areas. If we unite as one, it will be easier for the Igbomina bloc to secure the senatorial seat in 2027. Engagement among aspirants and stakeholders is unprecedented and is taking place over two years before the election,” he said.
On youth participation, Michaels highlighted the growing influence of young Nigerians in the economy.
“Many of the nation’s billionaires are aged 25 to 40 and are driving growth in technology and business. While experienced politicians have valuable insights, young leaders are better positioned to manage the current economic dynamics and improve the welfare of the people,” he added.
