Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, on Saturday visited President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, where the two leaders met to discuss national security and recent developments in the state.
Governor Idris, who disclosed the visit in a post on his X account, said discussions centred on the successful rescue of schoolgirls abducted from the Maga community. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his leadership and the decisive actions that ensured the safe return of the girls.
“I thanked Mr President for his leadership and decisive action in ensuring their safe return. His unwavering support and commitment to Kebbi State’s security are truly commendable,” Idris said.
He also appreciated the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, for his role in the rescue mission.
According to him, the collaboration reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen security and improve the well-being of residents across Kebbi State.
On 17 November, gunmen attacked Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga town, located in the Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, 25 female students were abducted during the raid, though one of them managed to escape on the same day.
Following the abduction, the federal government — under orders from President Tinubu — directed security and intelligence agencies to mobilise immediately for rescue operations, which resulted in the girls’ rescue on 26 November. The students were then formally handed over to their families by Governor Idris at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
