The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has officially closed the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)/Huawei Women in Tech Training Programme, which trained 300 women from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in digital and entrepreneurial skills.
Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, Senator Tinubu said the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to promote inclusive growth, digital empowerment, and economic diversification through industrialisation and digitisation.
“When women are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they become agents of change in their families, communities, and the nation at large,” the First Lady said.
She explained that the initiative, implemented in partnership with Huawei Technologies Company Limited, aimed to equip female entrepreneurs with practical technological skills to scale their businesses, actively participate in the digital economy, and drive digital transformation in their communities.
Encouraging participants to continue learning, Senator Tinubu noted that technology evolves rapidly and that women must keep adapting to new trends. “Your biggest strength is your ability to keep learning, evolving, and adapting. Use your new skills to solve real problems in your communities because true innovation is only valuable when it improves lives,” she said.
The First Lady commended Huawei for partnering with the Renewed Hope Initiative to empower women across various sectors, including agriculture, fashion, catering, retail, event management, and technology services. She also urged beneficiaries to mentor other women and young girls, especially those who believe technology is beyond their reach.
Senator Tinubu reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s growing population by meeting its technological and economic needs through collaborations with private sector partners.
The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, praised the initiative, describing it as a vital opportunity that will put participants on a path to success in their businesses and careers. He emphasised that information and communication technology is now central to global innovation and economic growth.
