The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has called for stronger collaboration between the Commission, the media, and civil society organizations (CSOs) in the Southeast to enhance the fight against economic and financial crimes.
Olukoyede made the call on Thursday, November 6, 2025, during a one-day capacity-building workshop organized by the EFCC for media practitioners and CSOs in the region.
Represented by the Zonal Director of the Enugu Zonal Directorate, Commander of the EFCC, CE Daniel Isei, the EFCC boss emphasized that while corruption remains a formidable challenge, it can be effectively tackled through collective effort, despite the evolving complexities of technology, global finance, and cross-border crime.
He urged the media and CSOs to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that can help the EFCC act swiftly, assuring them of the Commission’s commitment to protecting whistleblowers and safeguarding the identity of informants.
Describing the media and CSOs as “indispensable pillars” in the anti-corruption movement, Olukoyede called for “a coalition of conscience” among stakeholders committed to good governance and national development.
Deputy Commander of the EFCC and Head of Media and Publicity, DCE Dele Oyewale, spoke on “The Role of CSOs and Media in Driving a Preventive Framework.” He emphasized the need to counter misconceptions and false narratives about the EFCC, urging journalists to uphold accuracy and fairness in public communication.
Assistant Commander of the EFCC and Head of Legal and Prosecution, ACE I. Farouk Abdullah, presented a paper on “Prosecuting Financial Crimes: Issues, Challenges and the Way Forward,” highlighting the complexities of judicial processes in corruption cases.
Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, CSE Stephen Idoko, discussed “Understanding Cryptocurrency Fraud and Other Emerging Financial Crimes,” explaining the risks and legal implications of digital transactions.
In her session, Head of Enlightenment and Reorientation, Aisha Mohammed, outlined strategies for improving public awareness, stressing the need for continuous stakeholder collaboration to sustain progress in the anti-corruption campaign.
