The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, on Friday briefed President Bola Tinubu on the escalating security crisis in the country.
The closed-door meeting at the State House in Abuja focused on emerging threats and intelligence assessments, particularly in light of recent kidnappings.
In just one week, Nigeria recorded two separate school abductions: in Kebbi State, gunmen stormed a girls’ boarding school in Maga, killing the vice-principal and abducting 25 students. In Niger State, armed assailants kidnapped more than 300 people — including over 300 schoolchildren and 12 teachers — from St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri.
The Niger State government has launched an investigation into how the attack occurred despite prior intelligence warnings from the DSS about a heightened threat to soft targets like schools.
President Tinubu has since directed security agencies to intensify rescue operations and strengthen community-based intelligence.
