The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has condemned the deadly attack on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Zuru Emirate, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, which left one school official dead and 25 students abducted.
The attack, carried out late Sunday night, resulted in the killing of the school’s vice-principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and the kidnapping of female students by armed bandits.
In a statement on Monday, signed by Enderline Chukwu, Assistant Director (Information & Public Relations), Matawalle described the incident as “unacceptable.”
He urged all security agencies to launch an immediate and coordinated operation to track down the attackers and secure the safe release of the abducted students.
He disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has already directed security operatives in Kebbi State to move swiftly and ensure the rescued students are returned unharmed. The minister emphasised that those responsible must be apprehended and prosecuted.
Dr Matawalle also appealed for calm among residents of the affected communities. He encouraged them to go about their daily activities while assuring them that the government is taking decisive steps to address the situation.
The minister extended condolences to the family of the slain vice-principal and others affected by the attack. “I pray to Allah to grant him mercy, a peaceful resting place, and to console his family and loved ones over this painful and unjust loss,” he said.
