The commendation was contained in a press statement jointly signed on Wednesday by coalition leaders including Nelson Ekujumi, Razaq Olokoba, Razaq Oladosu, Uche Nnadozie, Peter Oparah, Gbenga Soloki, Gbenga Omage, Ajayi Popoola, Felix Mbah, and Shola Omolola.
In the statement, the CGG praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for “keeping to his words” on securing the release of abducted Nigerians. The group further commended the security agencies for “rising to the occasion” and executing the President’s directives with diligence, leading to the safe return of the victims.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, spokesperson Nelson Ekujumi condemned the trauma inflicted on victims and families but expressed gratitude that “the joy of the evil doers” was short-lived due to the professionalism of the security forces. He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the President’s promise of nationwide safety is fulfilled consistently.
The CGG also admonished state and local governments to assume their constitutional responsibilities regarding security and welfare instead of leaving the burden solely to the Federal Government. It stressed that security must be a shared responsibility across all tiers of government.
The coalition called on citizens to support national security by cooperating with security agencies, eschewing divisive tendencies, and providing timely information to expose criminal elements. It also sympathized with families who lost loved ones during the attacks and prayed for the recovery of the injured.
In a separate message, the CGG commended the judiciary for what it described as the bold dispensation of justice in the conviction and sentencing of proscribed IPOB/ESN leader Nnamdi Kanu. It specifically praised Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, for his “perseverance” throughout the trial.
The CGG further commended President Tinubu for allowing the judicial process to run its course, urging him to ignore pressures advocating clemency for the convicted separatist leader.
