According to multiple reports, armed assailants reportedly invaded the school between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., abducting several pupils, students, teachers, and a security personnel who was critically shot.
In a statement signed by Fr. Jatau Luka Joseph, Diocesan Secretary, the Diocese expressed deep concern for the safety of the victims and their families. Security agencies were immediately notified and have begun coordinated efforts to ensure the safe rescue and return of the abducted individuals.
While the exact number of victims is yet to be confirmed, reports from Arise TV indicate that 52 students may have been abducted. Authorities, including SP Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, and Ahmed Abdullahi Rofia, Head of Department, Disaster and Relief, Agwara Local Government, are continuing their assessments.
The Diocese assured the public that it is actively collaborating with security operatives, community leaders, and government authorities to secure the release of the victims. It called on residents to remain calm, support security efforts, and pray for the safe return of those abducted.
“May the Lord grant quick release to those abducted and continue to protect His people from all danger,” the statement concluded.
The attack comes amid rising insecurity in northern Nigeria, following similar abductions in Kebbi State and school closures in Kwara State.
Both President Bola Tinubu and the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago have confirmed the incident and pledged coordinated efforts to address the growing security challenges.
