According to a statement signed on Saturday by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, the patrol team—led by the Commander of the 25 Brigade, Brigadier General M. Uba—comprised soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). They reportedly fought through the ambush with “superior firepower,” forcing the insurgents to retreat in disarray.
The Army confirmed that two soldiers and two CJTF members lost their lives during the encounter. It extended condolences to their families and praised them for paying the supreme price in service to the nation.
The Army Headquarters also dismissed online reports alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander, describing them as fake. It urged the public to disregard such misinformation and continue to support the armed forces with prayers as they work to restore peace in conflict-prone areas.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sacrifice. He noted that their commitment, despite operating in one of the country’s most dangerous theatres of conflict, reflects the enduring dedication of Nigerian servicemen and women to safeguarding the nation.
