Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has returned to Nigeria after a trip abroad.
A video circulating on social media on Sunday showed the minister at the Fraser Suites Hotel in Abuja, where he reportedly held a closed-door meeting with a Qatari delegation. The meeting was said to have been attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, according to a report by TheCable newspaper.
WESTERN POST had reported that Edun, who was unwell left Abuja last Monday for Lagos on a commercial flight before proceeding overseas for medical treatment.
Last week, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, clarified in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Edun was “in the country for an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy,” corroborating reports by WESTERN POST that the minister had departed Nigeria aboard a British Airways flight.
During his brief absence, Central Bank Governor Olayemi Cardoso led Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings in Washington, D.C.
While abroad, Edun was seen attending the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London, where he visited the O’DA Art Gallery booth and addressed guests. A viral video from the event showed the minister interacting freely without his security aides, which observers interpreted as a sign that he was in good health.
The footage appeared to counter earlier unverified reports suggesting the minister had suffered a stroke and was flown abroad in critical condition.
With his return to Abuja and resumption of official activities, Edun’s reappearance has put to rest growing speculation about his health status.
