According to a statement signed on Sunday by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating the stockpiling of weapons by bandits in the area.
Zhakom said the troops stormed the hideout of a notorious bandit at Rawaya Village, near Kazok in Barkin Ladi LGA, but the suspect fled moments before the soldiers arrived.
A thorough search of the location led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one revolver pistol, four AK-47 rifle magazines, three G3 rifle magazines, 1,198 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, three mobile phones, and other sundry items.
He said the recovered weapons are in custody for further action, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and his collaborators.
Major Zhakom reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Enduring Peace to remain decisive in its operations against criminal elements and sustain efforts to ensure safety across the Joint Operations Area.
