President Bola Tinubu has written to the House of Representatives, requesting confirmation of the newly appointed service chiefs.
According to a post on X by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on Wednesday, the letter was read during plenary, where President Tinubu asked the lawmakers to approve the appointments in line with constitutional provisions.
On October 24, Tinubu announced sweeping changes in the military hierarchy, replacing General Christopher Musa with General Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
He also appointed Major General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
Major General E. A. P. Undiandeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence, according to a statement issued last Friday by Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication.
All appointments take immediate effect.
Shortly after their appointment, the service chiefs paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where they pledged their commitment to improving national security and tackling emerging threats across the country.
Channels Television reports that the newly appointed service chiefs arrived at the Senate section of the National Assembly Complex around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, accompanied by other senior military officers ahead of their screening.
