President Bola Tinubu has unveiled the National Identity Management Commission’s (NIMC) NIN Authentication Service (NINAUTH) app, describing it as a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation drive and a “remarkable new day” for Africa’s largest digital identity system.
Speaking at the official launch ceremony held on Thursday, Tinubu noted that the innovation marks a significant leap in the country’s journey toward a digitally empowered and transparent governance structure under his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This innovation is central to our pursuit of efficiency, transparency, and accountability in governance,” Tinubu stated. “It ensures that every Nigerian, regardless of location or status, can access identity services without bureaucratic delays or frustrations.”
The President explained that the NINAUTH app enables citizens to securely authenticate their identities and gain access to essential services directly from their mobile devices. According to him, the platform will reduce inefficiency, corruption, and duplication across government agencies while improving service delivery and public trust.
“With this platform, citizens can securely authenticate their identities and access vital services using only their mobile devices,” he said. “It restores autonomy to the Nigerian people while maintaining the highest standards of security and user control.”
Tinubu emphasized that the system is crucial to effective governance, supporting financial inclusion and providing accurate population data for development planning.
The President also directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to integrate their operations with the NINAUTH system, saying the move will promote seamless data exchange, transparency, and efficiency in public service delivery.
He commended the Director-General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, for driving the modernization of identity management in Nigeria and transforming it from a paper-based, bureaucratic process into a modern, technology-driven infrastructure.
