President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former First Lady, Chief Margaret Shonekan, on her 84th birthday, describing her as a symbol of humility, service, and dedication to national development.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Mrs. Shonekan, wife of the late Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, for her contributions to education and public service in Nigeria.
President Tinubu lauded her decades-long career in the public sector, highlighting her roles as Trainee Assistant Registrar at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in 1965, Deputy Registrar and Federal Civil Service Commissioner between 1986 and 1994, and later as Head of the National Office of WAEC from 1995 to 2000.
He commended her decision to return to WAEC after serving briefly as Nigeria’s First Lady, noting that it reflected her patriotism and commitment to the nation’s educational advancement.
“Mrs. Shonekan devoted her entire career to strengthening public institutions and promoting educational excellence in Nigeria,” the President said.
President Tinubu prayed for her continued health, strength, and sound mind as she marks another year.
