President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Sanae Takaichi on her historic emergence as Japan’s first female Prime Minister.
In a letter personally signed by him, President Tinubu described Takaichi’s election—following her victory in the Japanese parliament—as a testament to her long-standing contributions to the Liberal Democratic Party and her influence in Japanese governance.
“Your victory as the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, and ultimately as the Prime Minister of Japan, constitutes a remarkable expression of the confidence reposed in you by the good people of Japan,” the President said.
Tinubu also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Japan, noting that both nations have maintained a “deep, productive, and strategic relationship” spanning multiple areas of cooperation.
“As you assume this mandate, you can rest assured of Nigeria’s continued goodwill and support for Japan,” he said, expressing optimism that bilateral relations would continue to flourish under Takaichi’s leadership.
The Nigerian leader added that he looks forward to meeting with the new Prime Minister soon to explore opportunities for deepening cooperation between the two countries.
