President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Rome, Italy, for the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government Meeting focused on tackling security challenges in West Africa.
The President’s aircraft touched down in the Italian capital at about 7:20 p.m. on Sunday.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the high-level meeting — which begins on October 14 — will bring together Heads of State, as well as senior intelligence and military officials from across Africa.
Also expected at the event are representatives of intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, who will deliberate on evolving security threats in the region.
The Aqaba Process, co-chaired by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Italian Government, was launched by King Abdullah II of Jordan in 2015 as a counterterrorism initiative.
It aims to foster international cooperation in addressing the spread of terrorist networks, organised crime, and the growing link between land-based insurgencies in the Sahel and maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
