In the latest appointments announced on Friday, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede (N/9318) has been named the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), succeeding General Christopher Musa. Oluyede, a seasoned military officer, is expected to bring his extensive operational experience to bear in coordinating the nation’s armed services.
Retaining his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) is Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye (N/9563), who continues to oversee the nation’s intelligence operations and strategic information gathering.
The new Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is Major General W. Shaibu (N/9895), whose appointment signals a renewed focus on ground operations, counter-insurgency, and internal security across Nigeria’s volatile regions.
For the Navy, Rear Admiral I. Abbas (NN/1739) has been appointed as the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS). He is expected to intensify maritime security efforts and safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters against piracy and illegal activities.
Completing the new leadership team is Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke (NAF/2182), appointed as the Chief of Air Staff (CAS). Aneke is tasked with strengthening Nigeria’s air operations and enhancing the Air Force’s strategic and combat readiness.
President Tinubu, in announcing the appointments, emphasized professionalism, vigilance, and unity among the ranks, urging the new Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them and consolidate on the achievements of their predecessors.
