The memorial, held at the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, drew notable attendees including former Ogun State governors, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun.
Speaking with journalists after the ceremony, Obasanjo said the family gathered to celebrate “a life of service” and to honour the lasting impact his late wife made during her lifetime.
In an emotional tribute, John Abebe, younger brother to the late First Lady, described Stella as a cheerful and compassionate woman who radiated warmth and strength even in difficult times. He recalled how her comforting presence helped their parents cope with grief following the death of their eldest brother.
“She was someone you just couldn’t get angry with because she would always smile through every difficulty,” Abebe said, adding that her only son, Olumuyiwa, now has two children who are doing well.
Olumuyiwa Obasanjo also paid tribute to his mother, describing her as loving yet firm. He said her lessons on discipline, kindness, and integrity continue to guide his life and influence the way he raises his own children.
Former Governor Gbenga Daniel commended the late First Lady’s enduring legacy, noting that her compassion inspired the naming of a motherless home after her during his administration.
Delivering the sermon, Rev. Yusufu Obaje, pioneer chaplain of the Aso Rock Chapel, Abuja, praised Stella Obasanjo as a woman of deep faith who lived in submission to God’s will and left behind a lasting example of service, humility, and devotion.
