Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing Major General Waidi Shaibu, a native of Kogi State, as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
The appointment, announced on Friday as part of a major shake-up in the nation’s military hierarchy, saw Shaibu succeed Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who has been elevated to the position of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Other key appointments include Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff and Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
In a statement issued in Lokoja by Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Governor Ododo described Shaibu’s appointment as a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to fairness, equity, and merit in public service.
He lauded the new army chief as a disciplined, professional, and patriotic officer whose career reflects dedication and excellence.
“Major General Shaibu’s elevation is a great source of pride to the people of Kogi State,” Ododo said. “His track record gives us confidence that he will justify the trust reposed in him and further strengthen the Nigerian Army in safeguarding national security.”
The governor congratulated Shaibu on his new role and reaffirmed the unwavering support and loyalty of the Kogi people to President Tinubu’s administration.
