The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paid over N1 billion in compensation to families of personnel who died or sustained injuries in the line of duty within the last two years.
Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi disclosed this on Monday during an operational visit to the Ondo State Command in Akure.
He said the payment, based on rank, was part of the government’s welfare and insurance benefits for personnel.
“So far, within the period of two years, the government has paid over N1 billion to our staff as a result of being involved in operational activities nationwide.
“Some we lost; some were injured to the extent that they had one or two of their limbs amputated… Even last month, we paid certain staff shot during operation, and many of them are from the Northeast region,” he said.
Audi said most casualties occurred during ambushes, noting that the corps had devised new strategies to better manage such situations.
He commended President Bola Tinubu and Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for their support in ensuring prompt compensation.
The CG, who said he had visited 29 commands nationwide, noted that his tour was aimed at addressing personnel’s welfare challenges and motivating them for improved service delivery.
