The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved President Bola Tinubu’s proposal for a comprehensive overhaul of training institutions belonging to security agencies across Nigeria.
The endorsement came during the Council’s 152nd meeting held on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following a presentation by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu. Bagudu’s presentation, focused on achieving President Tinubu’s vision of a trillion-dollar economy, underscored the importance of strengthening national security and investing in personnel development at all levels of government.
To implement the plan, NEC set up a committee chaired by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to produce a detailed blueprint for the renovation and modernization of police and security training facilities nationwide. The committee has one month to complete its assignment.
Speaking at the meeting, President Tinubu stressed the need to rehabilitate and upgrade the facilities used to train the country’s security personnel, describing the move as essential for national safety and professionalism.
“We have to make the conditions of the training facilities more conducive for both the trainers and the trainees,” he said, assuring that his administration would prioritize the revitalization of police and military training infrastructure.
The President also urged state governors to intensify efforts to address issues affecting the welfare of citizens, especially at the grassroots level.
Chairing the meeting, Vice President Kashim Shettima reminded governors that the true measure of governance lies in tangible results, not rhetoric.
“The measure of government is not in speeches delivered; it is in the lives improved,” he said, urging state leaders to turn the optimism of the people into concrete progress in homes and communities.
