First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has reaffirmed that the National Library of Nigeria, when completed, will serve as both a centre of knowledge and a vital repository of the nation’s history.
Speaking during a visit to the Qatar National Library in Doha, Mrs Tinubu said the project aims to ensure that future generations, particularly young Nigerians, have a credible and accessible point of reference to learn about their country’s heritage.
According to a report by the Voice of Nigeria, she emphasised that the National Library will not only be a modern, digitised facility but also a symbol of Nigeria’s commitment to preserving its rich cultural identity and intellectual legacy.
She added that the library will play a key role in nurturing national pride and fostering a culture of research, innovation, and lifelong learning among Nigerians.
Mrs Tinubu praised the Qatar National Library’s motto, “Free Access to Knowledge,” describing it as a powerful inspiration. “With its two million books and 500,000 e-books, the Qatar National Library, located in Education City, Doha, stands as one of Qatar’s great monuments and a source of national pride,” she said.
The First Lady’s visit to Qatar is part of efforts to draw inspiration and partnerships for completing Nigeria’s own National Library project and strengthening educational initiatives across the country.
Last month, Western Post reported that her birthday well-wishers had donated a total of ₦20.4 billion for the completion of the National Library project in Abuja.
