A Magistrate Court sitting in Kano has ordered two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to marry within 60 days, following their prosecution for allegedly producing and sharing indecent videos on social media.
The ruling, delivered on Monday by Magistrate Halima Wali of Magistrate Court 3, came after the duo were arraigned by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board for staging viral skits authorities described as “immoral” and contrary to the cultural and religious values of the state.
During the hearing, Magistrate Wali directed the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate and supervise the wedding arrangements within the stipulated period. She warned that failure to conduct the marriage as ordered would amount to contempt of court.
According to a report by Freedom Radio, the female TikToker, popularly known as Basira Yar Guda, confirmed in court her willingness to marry Mai Wushirya. The magistrate subsequently instructed Hisbah to proceed with organizing the union.
The court also mandated the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to oversee compliance with the marriage order.
Reacting to the development, Abba El-Mustapha, Executive Secretary of the Board, urged members of the public to contribute financially toward the couple’s wedding preparations, noting that the order was binding under the court’s directive.
The case stems from a series of viral videos featuring the duo in playful romantic scenes that authorities deemed indecent. The clips reportedly triggered public outrage, prompting their arrest and prosecution by the censorship board.
Mai Wushirya was earlier remanded in a correctional facility after the videos circulated widely online, with officials accusing him of using the dwarf content creator to generate engagement and views on social media.
The Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board insisted that the pair’s conduct violated state laws prohibiting the creation and distribution of sexually suggestive or obscene material.
