The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Anambra State is fully prepared for the November 8 governorship election following a comprehensive readiness assessment conducted across the state.
The declaration followed a weeklong evaluation tour by a high-level delegation from INEC headquarters, led by Rhoda Gumus, National Commissioner for Election Planning and Monitoring. The team also included Sam Olumekun, Kenneth Ukeagu, and Baba Bila, all national commissioners.
According to a bulletin issued by the commission on Monday, the delegation arrived in Awka on October 21 and held a series of meetings with the Resident Electoral Commissioner and other key stakeholders to review logistics, security, and operational plans ahead of the polls.
Gumus said the inspection was aimed at ensuring that all electoral components — from logistics to security arrangements — were functioning efficiently. During field visits to local government areas such as Dunukofia and Oyi, the team monitored the batching and deployment of non-sensitive materials and supervised the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Addressing voters during the tour, Gumus assured that the process would be inclusive and seamless.
“This process is designed to be smooth and inclusive. No voter will be left behind,” she said.
The INEC officials also held a strategic meeting with the 21 Electoral Officers (EOs) responsible for conducting the election across all local government areas. Discussions focused on logistics coordination, early activation of Registration Area Centres (RACs), and the timely movement of election materials and personnel.
Sam Olumekun, who chairs INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, urged officials to uphold transparency and integrity throughout the exercise.
“Keep the process clean and transparent. Professionalism remains INEC’s strongest currency,” he emphasized.
