Tragedy struck in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Friday after the body of a female police inspector who was kidnapped the previous night was found lifeless in a bush around the Oloje area of the city.
The late officer, who was attached to the Ogidi Police Division, was reportedly abducted on Thursday night under circumstances that remain unclear. Her remains were discovered early Friday morning, sending shock and fear through the police community and residents of the area.
Security sources told our correspondent that the victim had served as a prosecutor at the Ogidi Division before her abduction. Preliminary reports suggest she may have been killed shortly after she was taken, though the motive behind the gruesome act is still unknown.
“The entire division is in mourning. She was very professional and committed to her work,” one of her colleagues said, describing the slain officer as disciplined and well-respected.
The discovery of her body has left residents of Oloje and Ogidi gripped with fear, as cases of kidnapping and violent attacks continue to rise in Ilorin and nearby communities. Many locals are now calling on security agencies to step up patrols and protect citizens from further attacks.
Kwara State has, in recent months, witnessed a disturbing rise in incidents of kidnapping, banditry, and armed attacks, particularly across rural parts of the state. The worsening insecurity has displaced several families and disrupted daily life in affected areas.
As of press time, efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages to her phone went unanswered.
