The Concerned Nigerian Youths in Diaspora has defended the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over allegations of possessing a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
The group described the claims as baseless and politically motivated.
The group’s president, Comrade Timileyin Ayenuro, in a statement on Thursday, said the NYSC had already cleared the minister of any wrongdoing, insisting that the matter had been resolved long before it resurfaced in public discourse.
“Dr Bunmi Tunji-Ojo’s performance is more than sufficient to silence any petition. It is abundantly clear that the supposed ‘certificate issue’ has already been addressed, and those raising it now are simply chasing shadows,” Ayenuro said.
He noted that the NYSC had confirmed the omission of Tunji-Ojo’s name during the initial printing of certificates and later corrected the error through an internal administrative review.
Ayenuro said the minister followed due process in regularising his NYSC record; hence, his certificate remains valid and legitimate.
He urged the public to disregard the renewed controversy, adding that Tunji-Ojo’s dedication and performance in office far outweigh the “needless distractions” being created by political detractors.
