  • Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba advocates for public executions for convicted kidnappers in Nigeria.
  • He believes that strong and visible punishments are essential to reduce the increasing rate of abductions.
  • Uchemba expresses disappointment over the government’s inadequate enforcement of existing capital punishment laws.

Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has urged the Nigerian government to introduce public executions for individuals convicted of kidnapping, arguing that strong and visible punishments are necessary to curb the rising rate of abductions in the country.

Sharing his views in a video posted on Instagram, Uchemba expressed disappointment over what he described as the government’s failure to fully implement existing capital punishment laws. He believes that the lack of serious consequences encourages kidnappers to continue operating without fear.

Drawing a comparison with China, the actor noted that the Asian country enforces the death penalty for crimes such as kidnapping and corruption, a policy he believes plays a major role in maintaining low crime rates there.

“The law already states that the punishment for kidnapping is death, but most times when these offenders are arrested, we don’t hear anything about their fate afterward,” he said.

“In fact, I think there should be a specific TV channel showing the arrest and public execution of convicted kidnappers. Until strict and visible penalties are enforced, the situation will remain the same,” Uchemba insisted.

His remarks come at a time when kidnapping cases are increasing across Nigeria, especially ahead of the festive season a period often known for heightened criminal activities.

Uchemba called on authorities to take stronger actions, stressing that clear enforcement of justice would not only deter criminals but also help restore citizens’ confidence in the security system.
