The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, who took ill during the week, has left for the United Kingdom.
WESTERN POST can report that Edun left Abuja on Monday night for Lagos by commercial flight.
He later left for London same night aboard a British Airways flight.
Edun was not accompanied by any of his security aides, suggesting he is in a stable condition.
This is contrary to speculations and unconfirmed reports in some media organisations that he had suffered a stroke and flown abroad unconscious.
WESTERN POST learnt that the finance minister will meet his doctors in the UK for treatment.
“He is in stable condition. But he decided to go abroad for treatment. He will spend some time after which he will be back to his desk,” a source in the Ministry of Finance said.
The Presidency had said on Sunday that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, would lead the country’s delegation to the annual World Bank/IMF meetings in Washington DC as Edun became “indisposed.”
