Major General Nnebeife gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the Chief of Ayekale Village, Oba Pius Oluwole Oni Dofin of Idofin Odoeshe Ayekale, following a recent bandits’ attack on traders at Olegbede Village, about 12 kilometres from Idofin Ayekale in Omu-Aran Local Government Area. The attack left three persons dead.
During the visit on Thursday, Oba Pius Oluwole attributed the recurring attacks on his community to its proximity to the Babasango Forest, which has become a hideout for criminal elements.
In his remarks, Major General Nnebeife commiserated with the royal father and the people of Ayekale, assuring them of the Army’s commitment to intensify security operations in and around the Babasango Forest to prevent further attacks.
Earlier, the GOC had visited the Army Patrol Base in Babanla, where he and his troops advanced into Babasango Forest during an operational exercise. The troops successfully rescued two kidnapped victims during the operation.
The rescued victims were later handed over to Oba Pius Oluwole during the GOC’s visit to the community.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its resolve to continue working with local communities and other security agencies to ensure lasting peace and security in Kwara State and its environs.
