The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has directed its members at Cameron/Onesubsea Offshore Systems Nigeria Ltd to commence an indefinite strike starting at 12:00 am on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The union cited the company’s refusal to engage in good-faith negotiations as the reason for the industrial action.
According to Comrade Sere Nwikiabeh, Assistant General Secretary of PENGASSAN’s Port Harcourt Zone, the company has rebuffed all genuine efforts to resolve grievances related to the 2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations.
This development is consistent with PENGASSAN’s recent actions against other companies, including Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. Ltd and Dangote Refinery, over alleged anti-labour practices and unfair treatment of Nigerian workers.
“We have exhausted all avenues of negotiation and dialogue, and it has become clear that the Management is not willing to engage with us in good faith. In light of this, we have decided to take a more decisive action to protect and defend our members’ rights,” the union said.
“The Association hereby directs its members at the Cameron/Onesubsea Branch to embark on a Strike Action, effective 12:00am, September 9, 2025 until our demands are met. We are confident that with your solidarity and support, we will be able to achieve our objective and secure the respect that we deserve,” the directive added.
The union stressed that the strike became inevitable after repeated appeals for fair labour practices were ignored by the management of Cameron/Onesubsea.
The letter was also copied to several regulatory and security authorities, including the President of PENGASSAN, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, and the Director of DSS.
PENGASSAN assured members that it remains committed to securing improved working conditions, fair treatment, and respect for workers’ rights across the oil and gas sector.
“We expect total compliance from all our members. Together, we will fight for our rights. Solidarity forever,” the union declared.
